Four strategic directions

In the past years, YMCA of Hong Kong and the College (CCE) have adopted four strategic directions, namely, Youth Leadership, Partnership, Capacity Building and Transformation, with the objective to further expand our missions, goals and services more deeply into the Community.

Youth Leadership Establish youth leadership through community services & students' activities and promote school-to-work transition model in formal curriculum.

In order to nurture teamwork spirit and the social responsibility of students, social services teams are set up to organize different volunteer services, including fundraising activities, visiting elderly homes, Placement Opportunities for Disadvantaged Students (PODS) and charity bazaar. Apart from the regular academic programs, these activities allow students to increase their exposures and learn to care for the deprived in the society and contribute to the community instead of just focusing on their own interest.  CCE also believes that it is critical for students to grow and develop their potentials through other non-academic activities. To alleviate this deficiency, CCE has organized various projects to help the students to build up confidence, enhance class spirit and teamwork, apply knowledge and skills learnt and train their leadership. For examples, the Youth-Run Enterprise allows students to experience running a business and handle various issues arising in the process; also, the Talent Quest allows students to cooperate to present their talents in front of the public.

Partnership Establish the recognition of the YMCA’s credential, articulate with the local and overseas universities and extend the opportunities of student industrial placement.

Through the extensive network and recognized credibility of YMCA, CCE has established close connections with local organizations with the purpose to develop more industrial placement opportunities for students. Currently, CCE has liaised with many 3 to 5-star hotels and travel agency, and marketing companies for the internship program. In addition, CCE has extended the internship program to other business sectors for students of business, secretarial and accounting studies.  In the past 3 years, there were more than 30 companies joined with us.  CCE is now extending the cooperation opportunities to arrange interns in the Mainland China and organize cultural study tours through YMCA’s international network.  Besides internship, CCE has cooperated with the local associations and examination authorities to design the academic curriculum and prepared the students for the local recognized examinations for their future development and career paths.

CCE has established overseas partnership with the purposes to enhance the education pathway of students and upgrade their qualifications to international recognized level. Currently, CCE has set up joint ventures with New South Wales (NSW) and Western Australia (WA) Technical And Further Education (TAFE) in the provision of Advanced Diploma, Diploma and Certificate IV in the areas of Travel & Tourism, Hospitality, Business Management and Marketing.  Students who complete the program will meet the qualification of entering into the second or third year bachelors' degree program offered by Australian universities.

Capacity Building Enhance the professional development of teacher competencies and upgrade teaching facilities

CCE has put great efforts in develop teachers' competence framework. In order to comply with the Teacher Competencies Framework set forth by the Education & Manpower Bureau (EMB) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, CCE has arranged staff development workshops for teaching staff regularly in the areas of teaching skills and student development.

CCE has continuously working on the learning environment.  A new library system was set up last year to enhance the library book borrowing procedures and promote the atmosphere and culture of reading.  At the same time, the new database system will be introduced to manage the knowledge, experience and teaching materials of teaching staff and students' information with the objectives to enhance data recording of the College and preserve the precious teaching knowledge and experience for future usage.  Besides, CCE has taken a huge renovation to foster the campus life for the students.

Transformation Foster an environment conducive to lifelong learning and develop a responsive curriculum to meet the needs of industries and students.

To better align the Hong Kong education system with other international communities, the new 3+3+4 system will be introduced. This system will mean a 12-year academic system for primary and secondary education. The broadening and diversification of the secondary curriculum enables our CCE to provide teachers with well-structured contents and articulate the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) towards an international degree. On the other hand, CCE is implementing the Qualification Framework (QF) to ensure program quality and assist students to set up their own roadmap for life-long learning. Change is the constant in the universe. In order to meet the changing needs of various industries, CCE has maintained a close relationship with the business field. Based on this close attachment, CCE has reviewed its curriculum constantly so that it will align with the business environment and allow students to experience real life problems in the classroom. At the same time, CCE has arranged many company visits in the past years to allow students to understand the operations and trends of these industries and capture the lesson learnt from each of them.
